I’m sharing all my anti-aging skincare secrets and everything I’ve learned about starting an anti-aging skincare routine in my 50s.
One of the questions that I get asked most often is – where do I even start with an anti-aging skincare routine?
With so many great products and devices on the market, I thought it would be a good idea for me to walk through exactly what I feel has made the most significant changes on my skin.

Small recap of my skincare journey – I had neglected my skin all my life. I never used sunscreen, never washed my makeup off, or wore a hat while outside.
One morning I ooked in the mirror and was horrified at how my skin looked. So I decided to launch an anti-aging skincare routine to see if it could make a difference in my very neglected skin a little more than a year and a half ago.
When I first launched the skincare journey, I decided to put some criteria on what products I would use. First, I wanted to make sure that they were very affordable and easily accessible, and just about anyone could fit them into their routine.
During the last year and a half, I have done this at home with home anti-aging devices and products. I have had no fillers, Botox, or injections. Since starting my anti-aging skincare routine, I have not walked into any medspa or aesthetician’s office.
Best Anti-Aging Skincare Routine 50s
When I started my journey, I didn’t know anything about skincare. It took me probably around six months to sort of feel like I knew what direction to go into and what products would make a difference in my skin.
If I had to start my anti-aging skincare journey over again, I would do a
a few things differently based on the knowledge that I have now.
The very first thing that I would do is take before pictures. I would get out my camera and take photos of my face full on my face, on both sides of my face and my neck full-on and both sides of my neck. These pictures are going to be so valuable down the road.
The next thing I would do is spend the first four to six weeks
minimum simply getting in the routine of taking care of my face. I would
also exfoliate during those weeks because when I started my anti-aging skincare journey. My skin was dead old skin cells and ruddiness
that needed to be cleaned off.
After that, I would start using an excellent moisturizer. I would get in the habit of using a moisturizer in the morning and the evening before bed. Lastly, I would start using sunscreen daily. Sunscreen is now a regular part of my routine.

Do anti-aging devices work?
Now we’ve talked about how to get started on an anti-aging skincare
routine and focusing on getting into the habit of taking care of our skin.
I would start with a device at this point. I wish that I had done this in the very beginning.

MITO Red Light Therapy
The device that I would highly recommend at the beginning of your skincare routine, I didn’t add until it was probably over a year into my own journey.
That would be a red light unit. I wish that I had started with a red light unit at the very beginning of my skincare journey for a few reasons.
First of all, red light is so incredibly powerful for rejuvenating the skin.
It doesn’t stop there. Red light is a powerful healing modality for all types of body ailments it helps with wound healing, joint pain, and muscle stiffness.
When it comes to Red Light Therapy, size matters! The more powerful your unit, the better and quicker the results. If you’re looking for a red light device, my suggestion is to get as much power as you can afford.
I’ve done an extensive post on Red Light Therapy here if you would like to read about more of the benefits of Red Light Therapy.
One of the reasons I like MyoLift is this device’s ease of use. I use the gloves with this device, so you don’t have to use a conducting gel, and it’s one less step I have to think about in my skincare routine.
My experience with the MyoLift Mini is my treatments last a lot longer than with my old microcurrent device. When I first started using the MyoLift Mini, I used it about 2 to 3 times a week, and I did that for about a month. Now I can do it once a week, and my treatment lasts all week long.
The bottom line for me is that my treatments with this microcurrent device are more effective and last longer than what I was getting from the Nuface.
NIRA Laser Review
The NIRA is super easy to use; I can do it around my eyes, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines in about six or seven minutes. It’s swift, and I do this right in the morning after my red light unit. In addition, this unit is FDA cleared, so it is perfect for at-home use.
The most significant improvement on my face has been the nasolabial folds and the marionette lines. Both are significantly softened, which I’m thrilled about as those were major issues for me when I started my skincare routine.
Overall, I’m delighted with the results I’ve seen from the NIRA. It’s super quick, easy to use, fuss-free, and I definitely think the results have been worth it.
Nebulyft at Home Radio Frequency
This device is called Nebulyft, and it is a radiofrequency device. You can use it all over your face and down underneath your neck. The results of a radiofrequency treatment are two steps.
One is immediate, and the other improves the firmness of your skin over time. This is because it generates a low-energy heat that penetrates your skin and impacts your dermis lower layers, promoting collagen.
If your skin concern is making your face look more bouncy, a radiofrequency device would be a great device for you to try!
