Affordable Beginning Skincare Over 50 – Part 2

Starting an affordable skincare routine can be overwhelming and confusing! Things have changed for us over 50 gals since the days of ‘wash your face with Noxema and go to bed’!

I’ve gotten a flood emails, messages and comments from so many of you asking exactly how to start an effective but affordable skincare routine when you have mature skin.

I totally understand — I felt the same way when I started just a year ago. With so many products on the market, it can be overwhelming. Serums, humectants, acids, moisturizers, toners, SPF’s — how are we supposed to figure out WHERE to start??

Those questions and that confusion is exactly what the Beginner Skincare series is all about. I’m doing my best to break down in to simple, step by step actions exactly how I would start an effective, affordable skincare routine for over 50 skin.

If you didn’t see Part 1 of the Beginner Skincare series, hop on over and watch that one now. It will offer you a valuable place to start.

The foundation for a good routine is what I call The Fab Four:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Exfoliate
  3. Moisturize
  4. Protect

The Fab Four is a good place to establish a routine and get in the habit of taking care of your skin. It will also prep your skin for additional actives by removing old, dead skin cells and uncovering brighter fresher skin.

If I were to start my skin care routine today, I would spend at least 4 to 6 weeks just using The Fab Four.

Moving on to the next step, what I call The Mod Squad, will add more nutrients and actives to your routine.

Be sure and watch the video above to learn more about this important step!

Vitamin A

Curology

I use a formulation from Curology. It’s delivered to my home and comes at a great price point.

Each prescription is custom made and comes with Tretinoin, and 2 other active ingredients depending on your needs.

Vitamin B

The Ordinary Niacinamide

The Niacinamide from The Ordinary is my current favorite form of Vitamin B and one of my most purchased products from this stellar company.

A lovely formula of 10% Niacinamide and 1% Zinc, I credit this little gem with regulating my oil production, diminishing the appearance of pores on my nose and chin and providing overall better health for my skin.

Vitamin C

DIY Vitamin C Serum

I mix up my own Vitamin C serum at home in my kitchen using the L-Ascorbic Powder from Boss Essentials.

At a cost of about $.84 per bottle, I love being able to generous coat my neck, face and backs of my hands daily. Check out this video to grab the recipe!
