Today I’m sharing how to pick the anti-aging skincare device that’s perfect for your skin.
One of the questions that I get asked most often is – I have blank skincare issues; what is the best anti-aging device for me?
With so many great anti-aging devices are on the market, I thought it would be a good idea for me to walk through exactly what I believe are the best uses for each device that I have tried.
A quick little recap of my skincare journey – I had neglected my skin all my life. I never used sunscreen, and after coming home from two years of full-time travel and looking in the mirror, I was horrified at how my skin looked. I decided to launch on an anti-aging skincare routine to see if it can make a difference in my very neglected skin that was a little more than a year and a half ago.
When I first launch on the skincare journey, I decided to put some criteria on what products I would use. I wanted to make sure that they were very affordable and easily accessible and just about anyone could fit them into their routine. During the last year and a half that I have done this at home with home products and devices. I have had no fillers, Botox, or injections. I have not walked into any type of med spa office or any aesthetician‘s office since I started my anti-aging skincare routine.
I’m going to start with one device that I would recommend if you only want to add one anti-aging skincare device to your routine because it impacts anti-aging and impacts your health in a very positive way.
Red light therapy provides red light and near-infrared light to your body that stimulates ATP, which is the spark that’s going to generate collagen and elastin production, and that collagen elastin production is going to help to smooth out our skin.
The unit that I have used for the past several months is MITO Red Light Therapy. Not only does the red light help with anti-aging for your skin, but it also helps with joint pain, muscle soreness, muscle stiffness, and a whole host of other issues. ATP that is generated doesn’t just stay on your face. It travels throughout your body, so you’re going to get tremendous anti-aging benefits from using a red light device, and I happen to find the panel units much more useful.
This unit comes with a pulley system to put on the back of your door. I get up in the morning, put the kettle on for my French press coffee, and then sit in front of my red light in it for 10 minutes, and I’m done for the day. If I’m having joint pain, I can move that so it hits my knees. If I’m having elbow pain, I can put it at my elbow. I can use this for my whole body therapy, not just face therapy.
The power on these units is tremendous. I haven’t seen any face units that can match the power of this particular red light unit. When it comes to red light, power matters; this has been a wonderful little device. It’s very affordable and so handy because I can use it on any part of my body.
The next very popular anti-aging device is a microcurrent device. Microcurrent works by stimulating the muscles underneath your skin to work them out and make them tighter and more lifted on your face. Your face is the only place of the body where the skin is attached to the muscles. That’s why microcurrent can make such an impact and make your face look more lifted and toned because it’s impacting the muscles underneath your skin.
I have used two different microcurrent devices, I started with the Nuface, and now I’m using the Myolyft Mini with the glove attachments. Both of these are great devices for impacting the muscles underneath your skin.
If you feel like your skin is sagging in your face or just not as lifted and toned as you would like it to be; a microcurrent device can be really helpful for you with that it stimulates collagen and elastin production. Primarily the changes I have seen in my face are lifting, toning, and firming of the muscle structure around my face. If you feel like your significant issues are wanting to have your face look more lifted and toned, then microcurrent would be the perfect choice for you.
I love the Nuface device for ease of use. However, I feel the Myolift Mini gives me more of an effective device, and it lifts my face a lot more, plus it lasts a lot longer. If you’re interested in a microcurrent device, you’ll need to decide which is more important to you, ease-of-use or the treatment being a little bit more effective and lasting longer.
The next modality is at-home laser devices. I use the NIRA, and this little device shoots out heat that travels deep into the dermis, which stimulates collagen and elastin production in that area you’re treating.
I’ve been using the NIRA for several months now and have had really good results. This particular unit is FDA cleared for the area around your eyes; however, I used it all around my eyes, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines. I thought I would see a massive impact on the crows feet around my eyes, but the most significant change for me was in my nasolabial folds and my marionette lines. After using NIRA for about 3-4 months, I took after pictures, and I was shocked to see the most remarkable improvement of my face was the lower part. Although I had some very subtle changes in my eye area, it wasn’t where the biggest differences.
The NIRA is super easy to use; I can do around my eyes, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines in about six or seven minutes. It’s very quick, and I do this right in the morning after my red light unit. This unit is FDA cleared, so it is perfect for at-home use.
If you feel that a major issue in your face is deep lines and wrinkles or fine lines and wrinkles, the NIRA would be the perfect device.
This device is called Nebulyft, and it is a radiofrequency device that you can use all over your face and down underneath your neck. The results of a radiofrequency treatment are two steps, one is immediate, and the other improves the firmness of your skin over time because this generates a low-energy heat that penetrates deep into your skin and impacts your dermis’s lower layers, which promotes collagen.
This device feels so good. I enjoy it because this heats up, and I use it with a bit of hyaluronic acid or aloe vera on my face. It almost feels like a facial massage, it’s very soothing, and as a bonus, it plumps up your skin. The treatment takes about 10 to 12 minutes, sometimes 15 if I feel like I really want to get into it, but it’s so easy to do.
If your skin concerns are lack plumpness and making your face look more bouncy, radiofrequency is probably going to be your best choice.
Now I want to talk about derma rolling and micro-needling, both of which are excellent anti-aging modalities you roll over your skin as the long needle punctures your skin. It sounds like a torture device, but really it’s not that bad.
What it does is punctures the skin and puts a wound there, which prompts your body to go in and heal the wound, and the healing process stimulates collagen. You’re going to want to use a deeper needle for your body and a more shallow needle for your face.
This unit is Dr. Pen M8, and I just started using this a couple of months ago. This is an electric pen that you plug in, and you use a new needle cartridge every time you use it. When you use it, you pop the cartridge into the plug, charge it up and use it all over your face. It is like derma rolling on steroids. It truly makes a huge difference.
Based on the research, derma rolling and micro-needling really works if you want to treat crinkly wrinkly skin or deep wrinkles and fine lines.
